PHP Developer needed

The client is Africa’s leading publishing group and has interests in newspapers, magazines, internet businesses, book publishing, printing plants and distribution companies.

• Worked extensively with php4/5, working always with the goal of producing components for reuse, often by others. (2 – 5 years experience)
• Comfortable with MySQL and database schema design.
• Translate a functional requirements specification into a technical specification.
• Written and implemented web services and have an understanding of what a services orientated architecture can contribute, as well as the pitfalls.
• Experience with or knowledge of the wiki platform and will understand how to design and implement a wiki for performance.
• Seasoned in the use of JavaScript and AJAX
• Worked with revision control and understand its importance in delivering a quality product.
• Experience with Relational-Database administration, including SQL scripting

The successful candidate’s ability to work as part of a cross-functional team in a creative, fast-changing environment is an essential attribute.

The position:

• Development of primarily PHP (LAMP – DRUPAL – WordPress) applications for web and mobile customers while adhering to agreed quality, coding standards and practices.
• You will be expected to be able to manage your time responsibly and meet those deadlines to which you have committed.
• You will work as part of a cross-functional team in a creative, fast-changing environment.

-  Good problem-solving skills

-  PHP5 development on both internal components and client facing products according to specification, adhering to quality standards and deadlines you have agreed to.

-  Contribute ideas and input on new product development.

-  Diagnose issues in the code produced by yourself and that of others and recommend solutions.

-  Database design.

-  Translation of functional requirements into technical specification from time to time.

-  Support and maintenance of the existing application infrastructure.

The following additional skills may well be advantageous:

Knowledge of the social networking environment

Knowledge of omeka, Drupal XHTML/HTML/CSS XML and related technologies (DTD, XSD, XSLT, SAX, DOM, XPATH, SOAP, RSS) Ajax Java
