Yip! I am engaged! Still in a bit of shock after the weekend and have to pinch myself every time!!!!
So we went away for the weekend to Berghoff Chalets situated in Porterville on the mountain. Arrived there the Friday afternoon and it was definitely worth the drive and wait. The chalet we stayed in was JUST PERFECT!!!!!!! Overlooking the valleys on the mountain and not another person in sight!
On Saturday 19 June we got woken up by our doggie children at 7h19. It was FREEZING COLD so we drank some coffee to warm ourselves up and took warm showers and baths…didn’t want to get out of the bath because it is FREEZING outside!
Any case, finally the picnic backpack was packed, gumboots on and doggies ready for the walk! Now, anyone that knows me well will know that I don’t like walking so much, but it was just SO beautiful on the mountain I could not resist and the doggies were LOVING IT (even more than us I think) We started walking around 10h00 in the morning and at 12h00 (10km later) I sat down in the middle of the road and told Almero I just can’t go on (The gumboots started to feel like 5kg weights). He insisted we walk just a little bit more and in the end climb a small hill halfway. Finally got halfway up the hill (with Almero carrying LaLa cause she just could not walk anymore) we decide it looks better on top of the hill. So we climb a bit more….FINALLY GETTING on TOP of the mountain, whereupon I ask Almero where he’s sunglasses are…then we realise it’s at the bottom of the hill (where I accidentally left it), so Almero walks all the way back down again and up.
Upon his return I could see he’s really tired (and me as well) So we just sat, looking over the beautiful scenery. Well, because it was our 3rd anniversary together, I began to get a bit impatient, because I just LOVE presents! So I gave Almero his present, waiting in anticipation for mine…..
Almero pours the champagne and stands up in front of me. He takes a letter out of his pocket (telling me it’s a voucher from a hair salon and he wants to read to me what I am getting from them.) Silly me, very gullible tells him to go ahead.
So there I am, sitting on the ground, with my gumboots off by this time. Almero starts to read, suddenly I realise, o..wait a minute that’s not a voucher in his hands. What he read is personal between us, but let me tell you, never in my life have I ever heard such beautiful words….still not realising he is proposing I start to cry and shaking my head (left to right saying no no no). In my defence I thought it was a speech to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. Then with his final words, where he asks me “Sal jy die paadjie saam met my loop?” I go into complete and utter shock. Not believing what I am hearing, as this WAS THE LAST thing I expected. He then goes on his knee and takes it the most BERAUTIFUL ring I ever seen in my life and ask me to marry him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On 19 June around 12h30 Almero Rademeyer made me the HAPPIEST person on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Oof course I said yes!!!!!!!!!!)
So we celebrated on top of the hill, drinking the bottle of champagne, completely forgetting the picnic we packed in…. After the bottle were finished we realised we still need to walk back to the chalet…it was the longest walk ever…but I was so happy, did not even really care!
At around 2h30 we finally made it back to the chalet………
I am the happiest person on this planet. Thank you Almero for choosing me to be your wife. I am completely and utterly devoted to you. Love you forever and ever.
